You don't raise heroes, you raise sons.
And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes.

Baby Shower - 9/27/08

My co-workers threw a baby shower for me this past weekend. Little Joshua made out like a bandit with all his goodies. Here are some pictures from the shower.

The Cake . . . . It was amazing and matched the decorations perfectly:

Laundry Detergent

Okay....huge topic...I know. Do you really need to use a special detergent for the baby's clothes?!?!?!?

I would think using the same that we have always used....TIDE....would be fine since Joshua will be in contact with everything else in the house that has been washed in TIDE and not some other special brand.

Adorable

Joshua is going to look so adorable going to meetings with Raul and I. He'll look like a little version of Raul.

I found this suit on e-bay for next to nothing. There are more there for different sizes so I may just have to see about a couple for the District Convention for sure. This one is for 3-6mths so it will still be to big for the Special Assembly in December.

This brand new 5-piece Infant’s Suit includes:
1. Fully lined suit jacket, single-breasted styling.
2. Dress slacks with elastic waist for an easy fit.
3. Matching lined suit vest.
4. White long-sleeved dress shirt with clear buttons.
5. Matching necktie.

Childbirth Education Classes

Okay....I know, I know....another post on this!!!

Honestly, some things have been great....touring the hospital and seeing a birth on video, but everything else is making me think 70's Flower Child. Last night's class was all about visualization. We listened to a CD that tried to take us to a path in a forest that brings us to a pond. OKAY is all I could think. The breathing techniques the instructor teaches are a little strange. There is one she calls slow breathing in counts of four and another one where we breath into our chest three times and on the fourth act like we are blowing out a candle, my breathng does not change at all for either of them. I apparently have very deep, slow breathing normally. Raul said that if I learned anything, it's that I have very calm breathing.

I guess we'll see in November how useful these classes have been. Next Tuesday is our last class.

Testing the Toys

Popi and Noni were testing out Joshua's toys. Look what I found when I went to use the restroom.

His bath toys all on the floor of the tub. I guess they needed to be tested before he can use them, right?

Here is a stuffed toy Noni and Popi brought out for Joshua (although I might have to keep it in my room). His name is Efilant.

Popi and Noni Visit

Popi and Noni came out for the weekend to visit Joshua this past weekend. We had a lot of fun and I was so sad to see them go this morning. I can't wait until Mom comes back in November.

Here is a picture of Dad and I . . . . . Dad thinks my belly is bigger.

Here is a picture of Raul and I after meeting on Sunday.

And of course . . . . . me and Joshua (32w3d).

Baby Shower from Downtown Office

The downtown office I work at threw a baby shower yesterday....it's amazing how so many people can keep a secret like this. I had my camera in my purse and made sure I got a picture of the cake before we cut it and someone else took the picture of me with the other admin that works here with me.

When the stroller was all set up at home, Raul took off with it up and down the hallway making car sounds. I told him he was going to wear it out before Joshua even gets a chance to use it. I am going to have to make sure that the video camera is handy at all times to get him doing stuff like that.

First Childbirth Education Class

Not at all what I expected a class to be. Especially for 3hrs and 15mins in the evening. Yes, I slept like the dead last night when we got back home. The instructor is great (helps that she's had three children of her own).

A lot of discussion and talking amongs the group. I kept looking at Raul wondering if I was having a completely abnormal pregnancy. Actually kind of scared me. A lot of the other women asked questions about lower back pain, how their ankles are all swollen, they have leg cramps, pee when they laugh or cough, even mentioned that the sleep surrounded by pillows. First, my toes are the only things that swell by the end of the day and that's only if I've been on my feet for the most part and they just look funny. I don't have any lower back pain (could be from all the comments from mom to stand up straight when I was growing up), but I do have that nagging pain in my upper back. Leg cramps I've not had, yet and no I do not pee my pants when I laugh, cough, or sneeze. I sleep with one pillow as I have done every night of my life and it's for my head. I litterally got a bunch of strange looks when I asked the instructor about the fact that there is no way I am able to sleep on my side at all. I prefer to sleep on my back, Joshua sleeps when I'm on my back, he wiggles around too much when I'm on my sides. Besides, when I try to sleep on my sides my legs and arms go numb regardless of which side I sleep on so I just resort to sleeping on my back. Next week I enter my 8th month and have had no major concerns or complaints about this pregnancy. I should be greatful, but I just feel ackward when I can't say that I have the "usual" or "average" pregnancy complaints.

Next weeks class should be fun. We get to tour the Maternity Ward.

Meeting Outfits

I never knew how hard it was to find outfits that could really be worn to meeting as he starts getting a bit bigger. I found these two. I'm sure between now and when he's due I'll be on a search for more to fill his "little" closet up with.
