You don't raise heroes, you raise sons.
And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes.

I Spy With My Little Eye...

Auntie Sissy loves to hit up Aunties Book Store in Spokane and buy Joshua books. I love that she finds different ones that not every kid on the block will have. So, Joshua loves this book and we pulled the camera out to let him read it to us rather than us reading it to him. I read the larger words describing the animal, but for the most part he read the book all by himself.

Happy Nappers

I'm pretty sure you've seen the commercial. No it doesn't make me want to run to their website and buy one. Although, it would be nice if a simple toy/pillow would make my child sleep through the night and wake up with a huge smile, ready to play. Anyway, Joshua is allowed 30 minutes after dinner and his bath to watch a movie before we start his bedtime routine. Needless-to-say, this commercial seems to dominate the airwaves. So, Monday while out running errands I had this coming from my back seat.

Sliding into Pools

A lot of the neighbors have packed up and moved...homes too, so last week Raul picked up a small Step 2 playscape with slide that was left behind...I can see why...it is really dirty and has a couple of cracks in the sides, but is still super sturdy and with a little bit of elbow grease can look really good. I did a scrub of it and we set it all up so that the slid would go into Joshua's little kiddie pool and he had a blast.

Scooby Doo, Where Are You?

Joshua LOVES, Scooby Doo. I have five episodes recorded on DVR so that he can watch them continually. He  always gets to watch his episode at 7:30pm every night before going to bed. He is very inthralled with the show. I love it. I remember growing up watching Scooby Doo reruns on TV. I managed to find the complete series on DVD through Amazon.com and plan to get them for him in a couple of months...might even throw in the TY Scooby Doo doll for him to hold while he watches the DVDs.

Below are some pictures of him the other day sitting on the couch cushions watching a recorded episode.

Swimming

It's only April here and it's already in the 90s most days. It's unbelievable. So two weekends ago I pulled out our pool and set it up so he could play in his beloved water. Then a few days later I put his slide into it, which he now loves because he can swim under the slide or climb the steps and go down the slide. He just plain loves playing in the water. I can't wait to let Matthew play in the water with him.

Fun on the Gate

Joshua and Daddy like to go out and feed the animals and then close the gate. Well, this is what happens just about every single day when it comes time to close the gate, so I grabbed the camera and got him having his fun time. I realized that he has a "screamy" laugh and it brings me back to the first time we caught him laughing on video and everyone mentioned the screams mixed in with the laughs.

What's Your Name?

We've been working with Joshua on this question. People are always asking him, "What's your name?" and he just looks at them. So we will ask him at home and while he is prompted in this video he does usually answer on his own. He will tell you how old he is now and my favorite is when you ask him, "What's your daddy's name?". He thinks he is saying Raul, but it comes out as "Raaooon"...he doesn't quite have mommy's name yet.

Dance

Joshua loves music...all kinds of music. Earlier today I had an old Aqua and Beach Boys mixed CD playing in the car on the way home from Bastrop and Joshua was just smiling away dancing his little cars in his hands. So tonight a commercial came on and both Joshua and Daddy got up to dance. Joshua now wants everyone to dance when he dances so you can hear him say "Shake Booty Daddy, Shake Booty Mommy" as he shakes his little booty around to the music.

Thomas the Train

After the meeting on Sunday, Silina went out to her car with Joshua and came back with a Thomas the Train complete with tracks. We got home and set it up for him since he kept saying "Thomas Train" the whole drive home.

It's now the first thing he wants to play with in the morning and this morning I got this picture of him watching Thomas make his turn on the tracks.

Get Down

So Joshua likes to climb onto the arm of the couch and dive off of it onto the seat. My crazy little dare devil child. Raul just about had a heart attack when he saw it, but I just laughed and couldn't get enough of it.

23 Months Old

Joshua is 23 months old today...I can't believe that in a month he will be two. Seriously, where did the time go. I can't blame the time being gone on being at work, out with my girlfriends, out on dates with Daddy...I've had my little man with me since the day he was born, minus the two small stints over to Nana and Papa's house in California, but even then I was able to Skype him everyday. So this morning at breakfast Nana caught this video of the little guy saying his new phrase "Oh, Baby", which he picked up from Nana, who would say it every time she would pick him up out of the car or change his diaper because he is getting so big. I will catch him saying it while playing with his toys under the kitchen table or in his bedroom. Sometimes he will just look at me and say it.

Puddle Splashing

Last night we went out and played on the road with a remote control car of Joshua's and he found more fun in running through the mud puddles. I have found that this is the main reason I love living here now. I love that we can play in the middle of the street and not have to worry about someone driving their car 40 mph down a 30 mph street. It was so quiet except for Joshua's laughing and screaming. My adorable baby boy is growing up so fast.

He's Driving

Nana sent Joshua some presents and yesterday we received one of the packages...A Cozy Coupe. It arrived just as we were sitting down for dinner, not that it meant anything to Joshua other than he had a car and it was in a box and neither Mama or Dada were going to open the box...needless to say we opened the box and spent two hours putting it together. It probably would have gone much faster if we hadn't had a mini helper grabbing at everything and then complaining that he couldn't get in the car while we were working on it.

Looking at his box
Trying to open it
Helping Daddy read the directions
Dancing over the back bumper
Helping
Well, it works, even without a door
Ooops
Just couldn't wait at all
First thing this morning after coming down
All completed
All Smiles!!!

Some Videos of Joshua

Joshua likes to walk around with Daddy when we are out shopping and what little boy doesn't like walking around Home Depot with his Daddy?
I made some Banana Pancakes for breakfast and Joshua decided that he liked them and would go sit on the stairs and play with his cars and I would ask him if he would like a bite and he would come running for his bite and go back to play.

Feeding Himself

Joshua now prefers to feed himself and will act like he isn't hungry if you try to feed him. Although he will hand the fork to you to help him get the food onto it so he can bring it to his mouth. So far his favorite thing is Spaghetti, but he will try to put ANYTHING onto his spoon or fork. He will even attempt to put goldfish onto his fork. He's actually very clean about the eating too. You'd expect food all over him and the floor, but really it isn't. He will drop some off his fork onto the table and then attempt to pick it up and put it back into the bowl.

Playdate With Javen

Yesterday we drove down to San Marcos to meet up with Silina and Javen. We missed the firemen at storytime so we decided to go out for lunch and visit for a bit. The boys did awesome and stared at each other for a while and ended up sharing each others food off their plates. They always seemed to want what the other one had.

We then went back to Silina's house and let them play in the water. Talk about partners in crime. It was so much fun to see them interacting together. They even shared little animal cookies and would have shared juice too, but somehow seemed to know whose juice was whose.
We are going to get together again hopefully before Joshua leaves for California to stay with Nana and Papa for a bit.

Nana.....Come Get Me!!!

So, Nana, when do you want to come get him for a week?

New Shoes

We found a pair of wanna-be-crocs at the HEB for $3 and thought they would be perfect for here on the land with him always walking in the dirt/mud. So we got them home and put them on his feet and asked him to show us his new shoes. He would hold his foot up in the air for us to look at. I am amazed every day he does something new like that because I know he didn't learn it from us.

Ojitos (Eyes)

Raul taught Joshua this past weekend how to bat his eyes when you say "Ojitos" to him. He is so adorable when he does it. I love getting him to do it first thing in the morning when he's so sweet and still somewhat sleepy.

Singing With Scout

This is by far the best video ever of Joshua. He climbed up into his bed all by himself, sat there, and played with two little toys, while having Scout play music for him.
