Cars 2 - Joshua Goes to the Movies

Joshua's first movie experience at the movie theater with popcorn, soda, nachos, and M & Ms was amazing. He loved all the giant posters on the way to the theater and would stand in front of them and say, "This one mama." He made it through about half way through the movie before deciding he was done and ready to go home. With 15-20 minutes left he was ready for a potty break and he came back to finish the movie. He liked it. It was different than the first one and very James Bondish. He probably would have enjoyed Rio or Kung Fu Panda 2, but with his addiction to Cars, this seemed appropriate.

Another Hospital Trip

Yesterday made Joshua's second hospital trip (not counting the day he was born). Wednesday night we were outside playing around and Joshua ran back around the unfinished shed in the backyard and fell down. It appeared he just did a stomach dive into the dirt and I went to get him, but he had gotten up and came running back to me. I kept saying, "You're just fine baby, let's get washed up." Then I saw the blood...at first it didn't seem like much, but then it started to pour. I grabbed the receiving blanket that we'd been using for Matthew and wrapped it around his leg and picked him up. I made a beeline for the back door. Somehow managed to get it open with my hands full. I put Joshua on the table so I could better see the cut. I just wanted to die. It seemed so huge and horrible on his little leg. We cleaned it with Hydrogen Peroxide. I then put Neosporin on it and a BandAid. We tossed it back and forth about going to the hospital to have it stitched. It's a hard decision to make as a parent. We gave him some Tylenol and went to bed. I would call first thing in the morning and see if his pediatrician could see him and what she would say. So, yesterday we got into to see Joshua's pediatrician. She looked at it and immediately sucked in her breath and said..."It's going to need stitches." So, off we went to Dell Children's Hospital. We saw the Resident Doctor and she too said "He's going to need stitches...let me get my boss and see what he wants to do." We waited some more and I made hand balloons out of the latex gloves. By the time the doctor came in I had a daddy balloon, a mommy balloon, and a baby balloon as Joshua called them.
So the doctor looks at his cut, which at this point looks horrible because it is under a clear BandAid full of numbing cream so it looks like a big bubble. The doctor's review..."It's been over 6hrs so we can't stitch it up...it would just 'cause an infection (why my pediatrician didn't know this...ughhhhhh). So, we'll clean it really good, put triple antibiotic cream on it, and place a BandAid on it. We'll give you an oral antibiotic for him to take to ward off any infection. It already looks to be healing (Joshua can thank his dad's genes for that) so it should be pretty much healed up within the week. He'll have a scar, but he'll be good."
Needless to say, Joshua is running around, jumping off everything, and even sat and played in his bath yesterday without a peep about his cut. I can see it already...he will take after his Uncle Adam..."Check out this scar...you are going to love the story behind that one."

Toys

I swear if Joshua gets ONE more toy I am going to go crazy. I went through all of his toys this past weekend and bagged up all the toys he hasn't played with in months. This is becoming a nightmare when it comes to what to play with. He has his select few that he loves. All his Cars toys and he loves his little Toy Story characters and takes them just about everywhere. The rest are just there that he will play with intermittently now and then. I refuse to let my son grow up thinking that he gets any toy he wants because he can easily get it at the stores. I don't recall having this many toys when I grew up. I do know I had many dolls, but I also shared them with my younger sister. Really if anyone wants to get him something...clothes (3T and up), books, or shoes (size 8 and up) are always welcome, but toys are not welcome at this point. He is content with what he currently has on hand.

Day Potty Trained

Last Tuesday while writing up my grocery list I thought...Why am I spending $15 a week to buy diapers for Joshua. So at 10am I said that's it I took his diaper off and put him in big boy undies with Cars on them. We had about five or six accidents that day. Wednesday came along and we had one small pee accident and one major poo accident. Thursday he did great and only peed his pants because we were running around outside and I got distracted on the phone with Auntie Sissy. Friday...well, we left the house for a doctors appointment and I put pull-ups on. We ran some errands after the appointment and at the stores we went immediately to the restrooms. He came home with a dry pull-up. Then on Saturday we had another poo accident and he looked so devastated, but I keep reminding him that I am not mad and that we'll catch it next time. Sunday he went to meeting in pull-ups and we went potty there, then came home where he wore big boy undies till we went outside where he wore a swim diaper so who knows. Yesterday, was our first day of absolutely no accidents at all and we go about every two and a half hours to the potty. Every morning the first thing we do is sit on the potty and Joshua reminds me that "Pee and Poo only go in potty."
He is doing so great and I am thinking that we may have a Potty Training Party when he is all done. Hey, we'll do anything for a party around here.
