You don't raise heroes, you raise sons.
And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes.

He's Weaned

Photobucket
Well 14.5 months after giving birth to Joshua he is officially weaned and I really think he did it all by himself. Tuesday and Wednesday nights he didn't even act like he wanted to nurse like he normally does. So I put the boppy pillow up in his closet. He went to bed with no complaining last night. I can't believe I lasted that long with breastfeeding him. It has by no means been easy, but I know I did the very best for him with breastfeeding him. He was never sick until recently so now I know how beneficial breastfeeding is for him.

My Baby Is Sick

Joshua more than likely caught the cold Daddy had when he came move from Charlotte, NC. He never ran a fever and the doctors kept saying that there was nothing we or they could give him. It just had to run it's course. So I'd been giving him Tylenol and Motrin to keep him somewhat comfy. Then on Thursday he started coughing, but not bad and his nose had been running all week, but we chalked it up to the weather being all over the place. Saturday we took him to the Rodeo in San Antonio and he did fine, the weather was nice, but during the concert he started to feel really warm. He always runs warm, but this was REALLY warm, and his cheeks were all pink. On Sunday, Joshua threw up three times before 4pm. We climbed into bed at 9pm and all fell asleep. Joshua woke up 3am coughing so badly that he could barely breathe. We quickly dressed and drove over to Seton Medical Center @ Hays where we found Joshua had a fever of 101.8. He had to have chest x-rays done to check if he had pneumonia. It was the worst little contraption for little tykes, but it works so that they get the shots done as quickly as possible. If you have ever taken your little one to the emergency room then you know the fear of what they may find. It's terrifying. You don't know the doctors like you do at your child's pediatrician's office. They ask you if your child is allergic to anything and you have to say that you aren't aware of any allergies. Hoping that they don't give him something he may react to and cause more stress or fear to hit. The doctor on call had the Respitory Therapist give Joshua an Albuterol Nebulizer treatment. He sat so patiently through it. He was diagnosed with sever congestion in his lungs and a possible ear infection in his right ear. After the visit to the hospital we came home to rest for a little bit before taking Daddy to the airport. Joshua slept fitfully with his arms wrapped around my neck tightly and wouldn't let go. Last night was the worst because Raul was in California and Joshua slept well from 8pm till 12am when he woke up coughing again. I changed his diaper to make him as comfortable as possible. Gave him a dose of Tylenol and some teething tablets and checked his temperature which was now up to 102.2, I had to use a dropper to put water down his throat so he would stop coughing so badly. I held him for an hour until he fell back asleep. He slept fitfully until 8am. We woke up and did another diaper change, took some Motrin, Amoxicillian, and checked his temperature, which had now shot up to 102.8. He managed a little bit of breakfast and then slept from 10am till 4pm, with a small wake up in the middle to throw a temper tantrum and not wanting to be touched. At 4:30pm he got another diaper change and some Tylenol. His temperature was now down to 98.8 and he was hungry for some dinner. He ate a good portion of dinner and played with his toys before wanting a bath. So hopefully the medicine is kicking his cold and he will be his usual smiley self again in no time.

Here are a couple pictures of him getting his nebulizer treatment here at home. One mask is a fish the other is a duck.

He Picked A Lovey

I've been trying to get Joshua to pick a lovey for the longest time and he finally did all by himself. He picked it up out of his crib and carried it into the living room hugging it to his chest and cheek. He brought it with him to bed two nights ago and slept with it right there (felt like two kids where in bed with us). Last night he practically slept all night on that little bear tucked underneath him. He now carries it around the house with him, but won't take it out of the house for some reason. I just love watching him take on new things.

Bory, Bory

Growing up my dad used to play this with me so I decided to do it to Joshua, who it seems, knows exactly what to expect of the game and then tries to do it back.
